LOCATION PLANNING

How to evaluate a server location.

Pick a location based on evidence about users, connectivity, data obligations, and serviceability—not a map pin alone.

Illustration of digital infrastructure planning

General information only. Confirm technical and commercial details with the relevant provider and qualified advisers.

Map users and dependencies

Identify where customers, employees, APIs, cloud services, and upstream data live. Measure latency from the real networks your users use.

Clarify data obligations

Ask qualified counsel or your compliance team where data may be stored, backed up, accessed, and supported. A city name alone does not describe the full data-processing path.

Verify the facility and offer

Confirm the actual facility, server model, network routes, delivery time, pricing, and support arrangement in writing. A market listing is not proof a provider operates there.

Plan for resilience

Decide how applications recover if hardware, connectivity, or a whole location becomes unavailable. Confirm backup and failover responsibilities before production.
